The Biggest Value in Creating a Birth Plan is Learning About your Options

Birth plan, birth preferences, birth wishes, birth communication tool, whatever you'd like to call it... the biggest value in creating one is learning about the MANY options you have when giving birth.

You may feel strong in remembering your preferences and what you've learned during your pregnancy, but when you are in labor, perhaps overwhelmed, tired, and/or feeling pressured to make decisions, it may go all out the window. Your partner may also struggle to remember what you'd planned and how to support you if it's not discussed and written down.

Birth plan documents are not just for people planning an unmedicated birth, a hospital birth, or a first birth. I recommend them for everyone.
