Homebirth: Not just for hippies.

I’m so very grateful to all the parents who have invited us into their pregnancy and birth journeys.

A common misconception is that people only choose homebirth if they are against western medicine or anti-doctor. While there is occasionally a distrust based on a past experience, it is not always the case.

Some people choose homebirth because they birth too quickly to feel confident about getting to the hospital in time

Some people choose homebirth because they’ve read the research that supports such a choice for low risk families.

Some people choose homebirth because they want their families to be heavily involved in their birth process, even if it means waking a sibling up at 4am to help cut the cord because they really wanted to help!

Some people choose homebirth because they want to sleep in their own bed and eat their own food after they give birth.

Some people choose homebirth because they were born at home, or because they saw their siblings born at home and it is their cultural norm.

Some people choose homebirth because they want a waterbirth, and hospitals often don’t allow this.

Some people choose homebirth because they want midwifery care and it isn’t available in many local hospitals.

I chose homebirth because I wanted my birth to have minimal intervention unless it became medically necessary and I strongly desired a waterbirth.

Why did you choose homebirth?
