Today’s Doula Fact:
Epidurals can sometimes help with the progression of labor!
It’s a myth that doulas are only helpful in unmedicated births. Sometimes, for a myriad of reasons, an epidural can allow deep relaxation in the muscles of the birthing person. This creates an opportunity for the baby to have room to turn/descend. It can also allow the cervix to relax and dilate.
This is a doulas time to shine! 🦸🏽♀️🦸🦸♂️
A well-trained doula can use this time to offer TONS of effective position changes to encourage baby to descend.
Plus, epidurals don’t always cover the potential discomfort during the pushing stage, so having your doula there to remind you of your coping measures is invaluable.
Never mind our pretty constant role as an advocate, ensuring informed consent every step of the way.
So whether you’re planning on having an epidural or simply open to the idea, just know we’ll be right by your side the whole way!
