These are things I WISH I had known the first time around. The small stuff, really specific to these early weeks, before you slowly settle into rhythms that may be a little bit easier. I made a lot mistakes in my early weeks of exhaustion because I just wanted so badly to “do it right” (my version of right, anyway) and I didn’t really consider how tired I may be and how to work through that.
Ultimately, hold sleep during these weeks loosely. You’re not screwing anything up if you’re all pooped. Talk about this with any partner BEFORE baby is here - and know that you will all need a lot of grace for each other and for babe. Understand that you’ll likely be VERY tired, that no sleep or little sleep is normal, and that all of it is no indication of how “good” your baby is or how “good” of a mama you are.
