My love for birth began with my introduction to Certified Nurse Midwives at the U of U when I was a pregnant teen. I saw firsthand the tender, in-depth care a CNM offered. That experience led to my five unmedicated births and a desire to help women feel empowered in their own educated choices. My postpartum passion began when my best friend experienced postpartum psychosis, and I had to navigate a very complicated system to get her urgent care. My advocacy for her saved her life, her child’s life, and I played a vital role in helping her husband cope with such a profound diagnosis. This led to my desire to help women and their families through this highly emotional and multifaceted time—not just emotionally, but physically, spiritually, and holistically. For thirty years, I have worked with women from all walks of life: the military mom, the single woman, the pregnant teen, the first-time mom, and many more. My compassion and genuine love for all humans set me apart from others. Yes, it’s my passion to help women achieve their birthing goals. It’s my desire to support women like a mother. I’m maternal. I care deeply about others. I truly mother the mother. My greatest joy is to quietly and respectfully witness the birth of a family. The joy of this work is seeing a new mom embrace her baby skin-to-skin and weep at the beauty of this new life. More joy comes from seeing her partner stand in awe of her strength, proclaiming accolades of her accomplishments and the wonder of the birthing process. That joy continues into the profound weeks that follow, supporting them through postpartum. Life doesn’t get any better.
