We would not recommend selecting Brittany Randolph as a doula. While most of her reviews rate her highly, she does have a few that are not so complementary. After finding out we were expecting our first baby, we began our search to find the best doula possible. After reading Brittany’s reviews, we decided the good outweighed the bad. Even though she was more expensive that many others, we decided to make financial sacrifices so that we could assure we had the services of a highly qualified and compassionate doula to support us during each stage of our birthing experience. However, at 33 weeks pregnant, Brittany informed us that she would no longer be available for the birth of our child, due to personal issues. She offered us various backup options, such as another doula or working with us virtually. Neither of these options were what we contracted with her for. Therefore, in our minds, we feel this is a breach of contract on Brittany’s part. While we are sure another doula would be quite capable, we do not feel we had enough time to get to know them on a comfortable level, or to build any sort of working relationship, which involves very intimate and personal details. We requested a full refund, and were told we would only receive $1,000, as she had already given us $500 worth of services. We hardly feel four visits justifies a third of the total cost of services. One of the meetings was just for us to get acquainted and hardly should be considered as part of our agreement. In our opinion the birth and postpartum was the most important part of considering the service of a doula. That was what we were investing our $1,500 towards; otherwise, we would have just gone with the virtual birth support for the cost of $1,050. Brittany was often late and rushed at our meetings. In addition, there were several occasions that we requested a change in our birthing plan, and after receiving no response, we ended up just doing it ourselves. After making those changes ourselves, she then had excuses why things were not added. However, if we were requesting them to be added and as an advocate for us, shouldn't they have been added for our peace of mind. Many times, Brittany promised to send us various resources and it was only after emailing reminders, did we actually receive them. We were left without the support we were depending upon per our contract agreement, creating extreme emotional and mental turmoil. We would have greatly benefited from her support, as the labor and delivery process became quite complicated for me. In addition, the postpartum support would have been helpful. Brittany created a very unwelcomed, stressful situation, from the loss of her services at such a crucial time.
