Years ago I never would have expected to be a mom, let alone starting a new career as a doula. I grew up liking kids well enough, but never had that drive to become a parent. Four years ago, we were told that we would not be able to have children due to health issues. We solemnly accepted the news and then 6 months later were incredibly blessed to find we were expecting our miracle baby. Now, I was still not a huge kid person, so I was terrified, but I found comfort in the journey of my pregnancy. I was enthralled by the history of women, from the beginning of time, going through exactly what I was. And I was empowered by the idea that women have been doing this literally forever, sans medical intervention, and I knew that was how I wanted to proceed. After my son's birth, I was reeling from how incredible my pregnancy journey was. I heard so many horror stories from friends and family about how their birthing days went. I was appalled for them. Most were pushed around by hospital staff, forced into unnecessary c-sections or just completely unaware of what options they had! I became determined to be an advocate for women who want to feel validated and that they can birth the way they choose. I wanted to be able to provide a beautiful experience, to anyone who desires it.
